The Benefits of LED Strip Lights For Your Home
From lighting kitchen worktops and bedroom wardrobes to shelving, media walls and staircases, LED strip lighting has become one of the most popular ways to add lighting throughout the home.
Whether using LED strip lights, Neon Flex or Tagra Connect systems, there are many visual, practical and energy-saving benefits to incorporating LED lighting into residential spaces.
This guide explores the different types of LED strip lighting available, why they've become so popular, and how they can be styled throughout the home to suit different rooms and applications.
Types of LED Strip Lights
Before choosing LED strip lights, it's worth understanding the different technologies available. Options include COB, SMD, single colour, colour changing and pixel lighting, each suited to different applications.
Single Colour LED Strip Lights
Single colour LED strip lights are the most common option, available in colour temperatures ranging from Extra Warm White (1900K) to Cool White (6500K), as well as a selection of coloured LEDs. They are suitable for everyday ambient, task and feature lighting throughout the home.
Colour Changing LED Strip Lights
Colour changing LED strip lights provide greater flexibility by allowing lighting to be adjusted to suit different rooms, activities and moods.
Available options include:
- RGB for millions of colours
- RGBW for colour changing with a dedicated white channel
- CCT for adjustable white light from warm to cool
- RGBCCT for full colour changing combined with tunable white
These products are typically paired with an LED controller, allowing colours, brightness and lighting scenes to be adjusted using a remote control, wall panel or smart control system.
COB (Chip on Board) LED strip lights create a smooth, continuous line of light without visible LED dots. They are particularly well suited to installations where the strip remains visible and a clean finish is important.
Cut to Length LED Strip Lights
Cut to Length LED strip lights are manufactured to the exact length required, removing the need to cut standard reels on site. This helps reduce installation time, minimises waste and provides a cleaner finish, particularly for joinery, shelving and bespoke furniture projects.
Tagra Connect LED Strip Lights
Tagra Connect, formerly known as Syndeo, offers a range of compatible LED Strip Lights designed to connect directly into Tagra Connect drivers. The range includes different COB options for applications such as joinery, cabinetry, shelving and feature lighting.
Rather than soldering or manually wiring the lighting into the driver, compatible Tagra Connect products use dedicated connections to simplify installation. Sensors, dimming controls and other compatible accessories can also be incorporated into the same system.
Unlike standard colour changing strip lights, Pixel LED strip lights feature individually addressable LEDs. Each LED, or group of LEDs, can be controlled independently to create effects such as chasing patterns, gradients, pulsing and animated lighting sequences.
Pixel lighting requires a compatible pixel controller.
Water Resistant LED Strip Lights
Water-resistant LED strip lights are designed for kitchens, bathrooms and outdoor installations where protection against moisture is required. Depending on the application, they are available with IP65, IP65 Nano and IP67 protection.
Choosing the Right LED Strip Series
Once you've selected the type of LED strip required, the next step is choosing the most suitable product series.
Ultra LEDs offers Economy, Pro, Joinery, Precision, Efficiency and Lumen ranges, each developed for different performance requirements, applications and budgets.

How To Style Indoor LED Strip Lights
Illuminate Furniture
LED strip lights are ideal for highlighting cabinets, shelving and display units. Installing strips beneath shelves or along the inside of cupboards helps improve visibility while creating a clean, modern finish.
Gaming Setups
Colour changing LED strip lights can be used behind televisions, along walls or around desks to create an immersive gaming environment. Different colours and effects allow the lighting to match the style of the space or react to different activities.
Ambient Lighting
Warm white LED strip lighting is often the preferred choice for creating a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere. Installing strips in ceiling recesses, behind furniture or beneath shelving provides soft indirect lighting that can be further adjusted using compatible dimming controls.
Staircases
Installing LED strip lights along stair treads or beneath handrails improves visibility while adding a subtle architectural feature. This approach combines practical lighting with a more considered interior finish.
Children's Bedrooms
Colour changing LED strip lights can add personality to children's bedrooms when installed around bed frames, shelving or skirting boards. LED technology also produces very little heat, making it a safer choice than many traditional lighting options.
Commercial Spaces
LED strip lights are equally suited to commercial environments, including washrooms, reception areas and hospitality spaces.
Inspired Washrooms specialises in commercial washroom refurbishment across the UK, delivering bespoke solutions for education, healthcare, leisure and workplace environments. Their projects include toilet cubicles, pre-plumbed IPS units and complete washroom fit-outs, demonstrating how LED strip lighting can be integrated into durable, functional commercial spaces.
