Ultra LEDs proudly supplied Professional COB 3000K LED Strip Lights for The Foxes Maltings, an exceptional build featured in the 2024 episode of Grand Designs, set in the stunning Lincolnshire Wolds.

Our state-of-the-art lighting solutions were pivotal in bringing Giuliano Rapoz and Zara Findlay's vision to life. This new build pays homage to the 17th-century malthouse that once stood on the site.

Meet The Foxes Maltings

Giuliano and Zara, the creative minds behind The Foxes Maltings, set out to build their ideal home, inspired by the historic malthouse that once stood on the site in the 17th century.

Their design reflects a delicate balance between contemporary architecture and the character of the surrounding Lincolnshire Wolds, an area celebrated for its outstanding natural beauty. They are incorporating materials like tumbled handmade buff bricks and cor-ten steel, which not only pay homage to the region's heritage but also bring a fresh perspective to the project.

Inside, the semi-open layout features vaulted ceilings and generous south-facing windows that let in plenty of natural light. Embracing a wabi-sabi approach (a design that celebrates natural materials and the imperfections in construction), the space feels warm and inviting.

Our warm LED lighting complements this aesthetic, highlighting the home's architectural details and adding to the overall sense of comfort.

"We wanted a premium LED solution for our home. Something which was reliable, and installation options that could be used across the house, including bathroom areas."

The Grand Designs Journey

In the 2024 Lincolnshire Wolds episode of Grand Designs, the transformation of a former malthouse into a modern home is showcased, detailing the project's evolution from concept to completion. The build features a semi-open layout and vaulted ceilings that required effective lighting solutions to enhance the architecture and functionality.
Giuliano and Zara's vision focused on a dark, moody aesthetic in spaces such as the kitchen and living areas. This vision required lighting that aligned with their design choices while remaining practical for everyday use.

"The goal with the lighting was always to add to, and emphasise the interior design and architecture, never detract from it."

"Complimenting the spaces and making them come alive at night with interest and drama for each of the spaces."

"With LED lighting, we didn’t want any lights visible by eye, from any angle. The goal was always to invisibly light and draw attention to spaces, and highlight architectural features. We always thought about lighting a space in three elements – Task. Space, and accent lighting."

Tagra 24V Triac Dimmable Drivers

We supplied our Tagra 24V LED Triac Dimmable Drivers in 75W and 150W, specifically chosen for their ability to provide precise dimming control for our 3000K Professional COB LED strips. These drivers ensure a smooth, flicker-free lighting experience, which is essential for maintaining the seamless, spotless finish of the LEDs in both functional and ambient settings.

Throughout The Foxes Maltings, our Professional Spotless 3000K COB LED strip lights were strategically placed to enhance the home’s modern aesthetic while ensuring functionality. Here’s a breakdown of the key installation areas:

Bedrooms: Installed along the perimeter of the ceiling and inside wardrobes.
Living Room: Placed in recessed ceiling coves and along the edges of built-in shelves.

Kitchen: Positioned under cabinetry and along the countertop edges to ensure effective task lighting for cooking and meal preparation.
Bathrooms: Integrated into the mirror edges and under floating vanities, the IP67 rating provided moisture protection while adding a modern touch.
Garage and Additional Spaces: Installed along the ceiling and wall edges for functional illumination while maintaining a cohesive design throughout the home.

"The triple vaulted living space was a tricky space to light, as although ‘one space’, it has several living elements to it."

"We had to think about lighting it on three levels individually, and then also bring all the individual lighting elements together, so that the space worked as a whole too."

"For example using LED strips on the lower level, to wash the walls in accent light, combined with spot lights for space lighting, and pendants for more task focused elements."
