BLOK, an award-winning fitness brand, opened Blokspace Leyton as its third London studio and fourth UK site.
The venue was created as a large-scale pop-up inside Patchworks, a former furniture factory in East London, combining training, art, and design to engage the local creative community.
Ultra LEDs supplied the full lighting system for the project, including RGBW Professional COB LED strips, Tagra 24V drivers, and DMX control.
BLOK required a lighting setup that could adapt between different training styles and events, providing the flexibility to move seamlessly from high-energy workouts to low-intensity sessions.
Blokspace Leyton was designed as a studio where lighting played a functional and aesthetic role.
High-output settings supported BLOKfit and HIIT sessions, while softer levels were programmed for yoga, barre, and Pilates.
At the centre of the space was a custom-built lightbox measuring 7.5m x 2.5m x 0.5m. Inside, three zones of RGBW LED strips allowed programmed sequences to run across the full wall, delivering even illumination across its width.
“The back screen was the focal point. We designed it as a light box about 50 centimetres deep, made up of three zones of LEDs formed by strips.”
– Max Oppenheim, Co-founder and Creative Director at BLOK
Additional LED strips were fitted around the venue to extend the effect beyond the lightbox. These marked circulation routes and outlined training areas, linking the whole space together under a single lighting scheme.
Ultra LEDs supplied 27 metres of RGBW Professional COB LED strip lighting, powered by Tagra 24V drivers and managed through a Showtec DMX control system with a trigger switch.
The system was operated through a simple button-panel interface, giving instructors control over preset lighting scenes. Each zone could be individually adjusted for brightness and colour, allowing smooth transitions between high-energy and low-intensity sessions.
The same lighting approach extended into surrounding areas, marking circulation routes and defining training zones under one cohesive scheme.
"The installation ran for almost two years and the system performed reliably throughout, supporting classes every day without issues."
“The light quality is high, the LED tape is solid, and it’s good value as well.”
– Max Oppenheim
The space was designed by anotherform, who developed the architectural layout and lighting concept for BLOKspace Leyton.
Working with BLOK’s creative team, they integrated RGBW linear lighting into the structure to define circulation routes and training areas. The concealed systems were planned around a DMX-controlled lightbox to deliver consistent illumination and adaptable colour across the studio.
The installation supported daily classes and events for almost two years. It provided the reliability needed for a busy schedule while delivering the flexibility required to match BLOK’s evolving programme of fitness and visual art.
Blokspace Leyton demonstrated how linear LED systems can act as both structure and atmosphere. Ultra LEDs’ solution gave BLOK the technical reliability required for daily use while supporting the brand’s ambition to merge training, art, and design into one cohesive experience.
Ultra LEDs’ contribution ensured the lighting remained consistent, adaptable, and reliable throughout the project’s lifespan — achieving performance that matched the creative standard of BLOK’s visual identity.
