Empire Casino, located in the heart of Leicester Square, required a full interior lighting upgrade as part of its 2024 refurbishment.
DPS Electrical installed over 100 RGBW light sheets and sections of Cut-Anywhere COB tape throughout the venue, supported by DMX-compatible decoders and drivers for centralised control.
Ultra LEDs supplied a complete RGBW lighting system, working closely with DPS Electrical to support multi-zone lighting control across staircases, ceiling coffers, and lightboxes.
Empire Casino’s lighting concept was developed by Steelman Partners, a global architecture and design firm known for their work in high-end hospitality and gaming venues.
The scheme was based on creating clean, linear visuals using RGBW panelling — achieved through wide-format light sheets in the ceiling and Cut-Anywhere COB tape across staircases, coffers, and joinery.
RGBW light sheets were installed in recessed ceiling boxes to deliver consistent illumination across large surface areas. Their edge-to-edge output and slim profile allowed seamless integration with architectural features.
Ultra LEDs worked closely with DPS Electrical to optimise driver loads, cable routing, and DMX zone control — ensuring the lighting system delivered smooth scene transitions, consistent performance, and simple maintenance across the venue.
RGBW was selected over tunable white following early mock-ups, offering stronger colour vibrancy and more flexible scene programming across the space.

RGBW light sheets were installed behind window panelling near one of the casino’s entrance, providing consistent coverage across large vertical surfaces. Their low-profile design allowed for seamless integration into shallow cavities, where standard fittings wouldn’t fit.
Each sheet used a fixed grid of RGBW diodes to ensure even colour mixing and uniform brightness. Controlled via DMX, the system enabled smooth transitions and scene changes while maintaining clean visual lines across the architectural features.
Originally opened in 1884 as the Empire Theatre, the venue has evolved through multiple uses, including a period as a cinema, before becoming a dedicated casino. Now operated by Metropolitan Gaming, it remains a central fixture in Leicester Square.
In 2024, the casino underwent major interior refurbishment. DPS Electrical led the lighting installation, supporting a full system upgrade using Ultra LEDs’ RGBW solutions. The new setup introduced multi-zone control, improved colour flexibility, and a clean architectural finish across all key areas.

The lighting installation spanned all key areas of the venue, with DPS Electrical delivering a fully integrated system using RGBW light sheets and Cut-Anywhere COB tape. These were installed throughout ceiling coffers, staircases, and joinery features to achieve uniform illumination and smooth colour transitions.
