Science Museum, A Voyage To The Edge Of Imagination

Science Museum, A Voyage To The Edge Of Imagination

The Science Museum launched Voyage to the Edge of Imagination, a temporary exhibition that took visitors on a sci-fi journey through space, technology, and alien worlds.

As visitors boarded the starship and moved through the immersive exhibition, they were guided by an alien AI host across planetary landscapes, research labs, and the ship’s control deck. Screen-used props from Star Wars, The Mandalorian, Star Trek, and Doctor Who were integrated throughout.

A Voyage To The Edge Of Imagination

Led by the Science Museum’s exhibition team, Voyage to the Edge of Imagination was designed as an interactive story diving into the world of science fiction and space.

The AI guide, Alann, welcomed visitors aboard the Pan Galactic starship Azimuth, guiding them through each phase of the journey.

Developed as a large-scale temporary exhibition, Voyage to the Edge of Imagination combined original set builds with authentic objects and screen-used props.

Exhibits included designs and artefacts from major science fiction worlds such as Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Alien, I Am Legend, and Interstellar.

Bringing The Experience To Light

Fusion LX delivered the full lighting installation in collaboration with the Science Museum and Ultra LEDs. Their scope covered specification, profile integration, DMX configuration, and on-site programming.

Each zone was fitted with RGB COB LED tape in aluminium channels, installed across ceilings, displays, and architectural features. Lighting cues were programmed to support the AI-led transitions, with centralised DMX control ensuring consistent performance throughout the exhibition.

Ultra LEDs supplied the full specification, including over 500 metres of RGB COB tape, mounting profiles, and compatible DMX decoders. All components were selected to integrate seamlessly with the control system, delivering accurate, responsive output across all environments.

Fusion LX

Alongside their installation at the Science Museum in London, Fusion LX has completed lighting projects across the UK, including the Natural History Museum, Historic Dockyard Portsmouth, and V&A Dundee.
